30+ Bingeable Shows/Movies You Gotta Watch

If you’re anything like me you have been binge watching a lot of tv lately! I reached out to some friends in and gathered 30+ recommendations for shows and movies that will help pass time during quarentine.


LEGENDARY
HBO MAX

The fabulous HBO Max original reality competition series Legendary follows legit voguing Houses, some established, some new to the scene, as they compete for the largest ballroom grand prize ever: $100,000. .


WE’RE HERE
HBO Max

Top drag entertainers Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara and Shangela Laquifa Wadley travel to small cities and towns across the country, transforming locals into fierce drag queens. Through Season 1’s six episodes, the renowned drag queens inspire and teach their own “drag daughters” to step outside their comfort zone for a night of no-holds-barred, full-on drag.


THE MORNING SHOW
Apple TV+

Nominated for three Golden Globes, this unapologetically candid drama looks at the modern workplace through the lens of the people who help America wake up. Pull back the curtain on early morning TV.


ELITE

When a school building collapses, the construction company awards scholarships to the students as compensation: Samuel (Itzan Escamilla), Nadia (Mina El Hammani), and Christian (Miguel Herrán), three friends from working-class families, start attending Las Encina, an exclusive private school frequented by kids from rich and powerful families. At first they have some trouble settling in, but when they finally get accepted by the other students they get caught up in the crazy lives of the elite. As Season 1 progresses, the kids deal with love triangles, drug habits, money problems and corruption.

AMERICAN SON

MRS.AMERICA

Mrs. America tells the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly, aka “the sweetheart of the silent majority.” Through the eyes of the women of the era – both Schlafly and second wave feminists Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelshaus – the series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted the political landscape. WESTWORLD
HBO/Hulu

In this series set in a futuristic Wild West fantasy park, a group of android ‘hosts’ deviate from their programmers’ carefully planned scripts in a disturbing pattern of aberrant behavior. With an exceptional cast headed by Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright, ‘Westworld’ was inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 film.


MONEY HEIST
Netflix

Set in Madrid, a mysterious man known as “The Professor” recruits a group of eight people, who choose cities for code-names, to carry out an ambitious plan that involves entering the Royal Mint of Spain, and escaping with €2.4 billion. After taking 67 people hostage inside the Mint, the team plans to remain inside for 11 days to print the money as they deal with elite police forces. In the events succeeding the initial heist, the group are forced out of hiding, and find themselves preparing for a second heist, this time on the Bank of Spain, as they again deal with hostages and police forces.


THE LAST KINGDOM

The story setting begins in 866 with the Viking conquest of York, when England is divided into Heptarchy (seven kingdoms). The Anglo-Saxonlands are gradually attacked, plundered and ruled by Viking Danes in many areas. The Kingdom of Wessex remains the last stronghold against the Danes.


DEAR WHITE PEOPLE
Netflix

Dear White People is an American comedy-drama television series on Netflix that follows several black college students at an Ivy League institution, touching on issues surrounding modern American race relations.


SHADOWHUNTERS
Hulu

Clary Fray has just enrolled at Brooklyn Academy of Arts. On her eighteenth birthday, she learns that she is a Shadowhunter, a human born with angelic blood who protects humans from demons and rogue downworlders. That night, Clary’s mother, Jocelyn, is abducted by a group of rogue Shadowhunters called the Circle. Their leader is Jocelyn’s ex-husband, Valentine Morgenstern, who is also Clary’s father.


INSECURE
HBO/Hulu

Modern-day black women are usually portrayed as strong, confident and “flawless.” But Issa and Molly are definitely not “killing it.” These best friends must deal with their own real-life flaws as they attempt to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences.


UMBRELLA ACADEMY
Netflix

On October 1, 1989, 43 women around the world give birth simultaneously, despite none of them showing any sign of pregnancy until labor began. Seven of the children are adopted by eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves, and turned into a superhero team in what he calls “The Umbrella Academy”. Hargreeves gives the children numbers rather than names, but they eventually are named by their nanny robot-mother, Grace, as: Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Number Five (his only name), Ben and Vanya. While putting six of his children to work fighting crime, Reginald keeps Vanya apart from her siblings’ activities, as she supposedly demonstrates no powers of her own.

THE BODYGUARD

A pop singer has been receiving threatening notes, and her manager hires a bodyguard known for his good work. The bodyguard ruffles the singer’s feathers and most of her entourage by tightening security more than they feel is necessary. The bodyguard is haunted by the fact that he was on Reagan’s secret service staff but wasn’t there to prevent the attack by Hinckley. Eventually the bodyguard and the singer start an affair, and she begins to believe his precautions are necessary when the stalker strikes close to home.


BAD EDUCATION

The beloved superintendent of New York’s Roslyn school district and his staff, friends and relatives become the prime suspects in the unfolding of the single largest public school embezzlement scandal in American history.


THE MARVELOUS MRS.MAISEL

DARK
Netflix

The first German production from the world’s leading Internet TV Network is set in a German town in present day where the disappearance of two young children exposes the double lives and fractured relationships among four families. In ten hour-long episodes, the story takes on a surprising twist that ties back to the same town in 1986.


NEVER HAVE I EVER
Netflix

The story centers around Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a 15-year-old girl from Sherman Oaks, California. After a horrible freshman year, Devi wants to change her social status, but friends, family, and feelings do not make it easy for her. After Devi’s father, Mohan (Sendhil Ramamurthy) passes away, Devi loses the use of her legs for three months. The following year, she tries to deal with her grief, Indian identity and school life, also struggling with her relationship with her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan), her beautiful cousin, Kamala (Richa Moorjani), her 2 best friends, Eleanor (Ramona Young) and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), her high school crush, Paxton (Darren Barnet), and her nemesis, Ben (Jaren Lewison). The series is mostly narrated by professional tennis player John McEnroe, with one of the episodes narrated by Andy Samberg.


KILLING EVE

Bored with her protection role within the British intelligence agencies, Eve Polastri is overly interested in female assassins, their psychologies and their methods of killing. After brashly investigating behind-the-scenes in relation to a witness she is handling, she is fired from MI5. However, to her delight, she is recruited by a secret division within MI6chasing an international assassin who calls herself Villanelle. Eve crosses paths with Villanelle and discovers that members within both of their secret circles may be more interconnected than she is comfortable with, but forms an obsession with Villanelle that is more than enthusiastically reciprocated. Both women begin to focus less on their initial missions in order to desperately learn more about the other.


HOLLYWOOD

JACK RYAN
Prime Video

BARRY

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER
Netflix

Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a world where human civilization consists of four nations, named after the four classical elements: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. In each nation certain people, known as “benders” (waterbenders, earthbenders, firebenders and airbenders), have the ability to telekinetically manipulate and control their nation’s element using martial arts. The Avatar is the only person with the ability to bend all four elements.


Cougar Town
Hulu

Set in the fictional town of Gulfhaven, Florida, which is nicknamed “Cougar Town” because its high school team mascot is a cougar, the series focuses on Jules Cobb, a recently divorced woman in her 40s facing the often humorous challenges, pitfalls, and rewards of life’s next chapter, along with her teenage son, her ex-husband, and her wine-loving friends who together make up her dysfunctional, but supportive and caring, extended family. Most scenes in the series take place in Jules’ home, Gray’s Pub, or around her ex-husband’s boat.


DEFENDING JACOB
Apple TV+

A family’s lives are irreparably disrupted when the son is accused of murdering a fellow classmate in this dramatic legal thriller. Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, and Jaeden Martell star in the adaptation of William Landay’s bestselling novel.


THE 100
Netflix

The human race returns, after a 97-year exile in space, to a wildly transformed Earth… only to discover that the human race had never truly left. Clarke found herself forced to lead a band of disposable juvenile delinquents as they faced death at every turn.


ZOEY’S EXTRADORDINARY PLAYLIST
Hulu

In this joyous and celebratory drama, Zoey Clarke is a whip-smart computer coder forging her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event, she starts to hear the innermost wants and desires of the people around her through songs. At first, she questions her own sanity, but soon realizes this unwanted curse may just be an incredibly wonderful gift.
